Basic First Aid for Child Care

This course is specifically designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to perform emergency first aid for life threatening injuries and illnesses involving infants and young children. This course is ideal for childcare workers, parent, grandparents and other caregivers. There are no prerequisites and the course takes approximately 8 to 10hrs. This course needs to be updated every three years and the CPR component every 12 months.

  • Demonstrating the use of an automated external defibrillator
  • Care of the unconscious person
  • Special techniques for children and Infants
  • CPR in special circumstances
  • Breathing Emergencies including choking and Asthma
  • Shock
  • Severe Allergic reaction
  • Bleeding and wound care
  • Burns and scalds
  • Bites and stings
  • Infection control
  • Reporting procedures

Assessment is based on demonstrations of your practical knowledge and skills.
