Properly trained first aid personnel are a necessity at most workplaces.
In fact, nowadays more businesses require potential employees to complete first aid courses before starting work.
St John Ambulance Wollongong branch coordinator Ann Howell said it was imperative that employees and customers were presented with a safe working environment that complied with WorkCover regulations. St John offered accredited courses, which complied with the Occupational Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation 1989.
Mrs Howell added that the Wollongong branch had followed the lead of its head office and was now ``instantly rewarding successful course participants".
She said all students who successfully completed first aid courses at the St John training base in Wollongong were now recognised in class certificate presentations for their ability to save lives.
Certificates were now presented to the students at the conclusion of each class, which enables them to prove their first aid qualifications to employers immediately after the course.
The first batch of students received their certificates last week.
``Students are proud to receive their first aid certificates, which prove their commitment to helping people in need and in some cases saving lives," Mrs Howell said.
St John Ambulance has been teaching first aid in Australia for more than 100 years. There are more than 750,000 Australians holding a valid St John certificate.
